An SMS (text message)-capable phone and access code will soon be required to connect to UGuest, which provides visitors to the University of Utah and University of Utah Health with basic, unencrypted wireless internet access.

Though new wireless access points get a lot of attention, approximately 57 percent of network projects tracked in the 2021 calendar year are actually hardware and software life-cycle upgrades.

FormAssembly, the new cloud service replacing UIT’s current form creation and management tool, will empower Omni CMS users to create and update their forms, and embed them in their websites.

The UIT/ITS golf tournament got back into the swing of things this year, as staff from the two organizations, past and present, met at Forest Dale Golf Course in September to join in friendly competition.

The Strategic Information Technology Committee (SITC) met on September 14. The Architecture and New Technology Committee (ANTC) regrouped on September 27. The Enterprise Web Advisory Council (EWAC) will meet on October 14. SITC will meet again on November 9. ANTC will reconvene on November 22.

UIT staff recognized for their excellent work.

More than a million audits in the Degree Audit Reporting System, or DARS, have been processed at the U since January 2021. It’s little wonder, then, that DARS was recently rolled into the U’s IT disaster recovery efforts.

The Utah native is a hands-on supervisor who likes to work closely with his team to identify and troubleshoot issues, define new enhancements, and make the university a better place.
